Captain Wagtail

The Pavillion, 13 Careys Lane, Cork City

Sat 9th May, 3:00 pm

What happens when Cork’s notorious historical daughter, Anne Bonny, lands in 2026?

Captain Wagtail invites you aboard a fast-paced theatrical adventure where a rebel pirate queen destroys the neat and righteous ivory tower of a modern academic—and refuses to be cast off. Expect razor-sharp banter, bawdy humour, and a frothy culture clash as this rum-soaked legend collides with contemporary ideas about gender, respectability, and decisions about who gets to tell the story.

This is history unlaced, in a fast, and funny romp that blends fact and folklore, academia and anarchy. You’ll be press-ganged into a wily pirate community and off to the high seas, cheering for a woman who never asked permission from anyone.

Bold, irreverent, and joyfully subversive, Captain Wagtail is a celebration of defiance and reinvention. There may be some resistance. There will be mutiny.
