On Saturday the 4th of May 2024 Ronnie Kavanagh died after a long illness. Born in Fermoy Ronnie was a musician, a historian, a singer and a songwriter. He was known to his fans and music industry as Ron Kavana and during his hectic career he played with The Pogues, Elvis Costello, Paddy Keenan, Miriam Kavana, Keith Richards, and Dr John. Ron was hugely influential as a songwriter and performer and toured with The Pogues and also appeared in the Pogues movie, If I Should Fall From Grace With God. He wrote the song Reconciliation that was recorded by Dick Gaughan and The Voice Squad and he also co-wrote two songs with Terry Woods of Sweeney’s Men, Every Man Is a King and Young Ned of The Hill. As a session guitarist he played on the powerful 1994 recording duet with Shane MacGowan and Sinead O’Connor’, Haunted. Ron was born on June 21, 1952 in Fermoy to an Irish father, Joe, and an American-born mother, Dolores, he started out playing with local band The Wizards, a precursor of Loudest Whisper. Ron’s music and life will be celebrated at the Triskel in songs, tunes and stories.

Thomas McCarthy comes from Birr in County Offaly. His family are the McCarthys who settled there generations ago. Thomas comes from a long line of old traditional singers and musicians who kept the tradition of singing strong. In 2019 Thomas was awarded the TG4 Gradam Ceoil Traditional Singer of the Year.
